A study of womanhood, visibility and the beauty of what is not immediately revealed
British-Nigerian luxury womenswear house KÍLÉNTÀR today unveiled its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, Seen from Every Angle, in an intimate runway presentation at The Sphere, Lagos, during Lagos Fashion Week.
Conceived by founder and creative director Michelle Adepoju, the collection explores the many dimensions of womanhood: the tension between being seen and choosing how to be seen, and the impression a woman leaves once she has gone.
“I’ve never believed a woman should be defined by one version of herself,” says Adepoju. “We’re constantly changing, constantly evolving. Sometimes we want to be seen, and other times we want to keep a little of ourselves private. I wanted to create a collection that makes room for all of it. Most people design for the entrance. This season, I wanted to think about the exit.”
That philosophy shapes garments designed to reveal themselves from every perspective. Sculptural silhouettes, intricate back detailing, cascading fringe, delicate braiding and hand-beaded embellishment reward a second glance; what reads as understated from the front becomes something else entirely from behind.
Rings recur throughout the collection, drawn from Adepoju’s memories of her mother’s love of rings and mirrors. The motif extended to the show itself: each guest found a KÍLÉNTÀR mirror on their seat which, when opened, revealed an arrangement of rings, an invitation to consider their own relationship with visibility and self-perception.
Craft at the core
The collection brings together handwoven textiles, including Faso Dan Fani and aso-oke, with silk, dyed raffia, macramé, leather and hand beadwork. Sculptural construction meets fluid movement, in a palette of butter yellow, seafoam, tangerine and ivory alongside deeper saturated tones.
KÍLÉNTÀR works directly with a community of approximately 30 women weavers and dyers, including its own atelier of women weavers in Burkina Faso, where the house’s woven fabrics are developed and made in-house. By reinterpreting traditional textile techniques through a contemporary luxury lens, the house continues to set the standard for how West African craftsmanship is owned, preserved and presented on a global stage.
Seen from Every Angle is, ultimately, a reflection on individuality and the freedom to exist beyond a single perspective: a celebration of the woman who can be many things at once, without needing to explain any of them.
“The front introduces her,” says Adepoju. “The back lets you remember her.”
SEEN FROM EVERY ANGLE, EXPLAINED
What is Kíléntár's Spring/Summer 2027 collection about?
Seen from Every Angle is Michelle Adepoju's study of womanhood and visibility. Most people design for the entrance. This season she thought about the exit: what a woman leaves behind when she walks out of a room. The collection holds many versions of one woman, composed and extravagant, sensual and self-possessed.
Where was Kíléntár's SS27 collection shown?
Kíléntár unveiled Seen from Every Angle on 29 October 2026 in an intimate runway presentation at The Sphere, Lagos, during Lagos Fashion Week.
What does "the front introduces her, the back lets you remember her" mean?
It is the idea behind the collection. The front of a look introduces the woman. The back is what stays with you after she has gone. That is why the pieces carry rings that gather cloth, braids that travel down an open back, and fringe that keeps moving after the body has passed.
Why are there rings and mirrors in the collection?
Michelle's mother loved rings and mirrors, and the pleasure she took in getting dressed. A small detail could make an ordinary moment feel like an occasion. At the show, each guest found a Kíléntár mirror on their seat which, when opened, revealed an arrangement of rings.
What fabrics and techniques are used in the SS27 collection?
The collection brings together handwoven textiles, including Faso Dan Fani and aso-oke, with silk, dyed raffia, macramé, leather and hand beadwork. In SS27 the handwoven stripes and patchwork sit beside silk, raffia, macramé, beads and fringe. Silhouettes range from sharply tailored and almost quiet to colour, texture and motion.
What colours are in the Spring/Summer 2027 collection?
Earth and stripe give way to butter yellow, tangerine and seafoam. The colour then deepens into clay and red before everything becomes light again, ending in ivory. Michelle describes it as a little like memory: vivid in places, softened in others, never entirely still.
Who makes the cloth in Kíléntár's SS27 collection?
The cloth is woven and dyed by hand by women. Kíléntár works directly with approximately 30 women weavers and dyers. Michelle has spent years gathering and studying woven pieces and building relationships with makers whose knowledge lives in the fabric itself. SS27 is designed to show that work and the skill behind it.
Who is the SS27 collection for?
It is for the woman who enters on her own terms, and whose presence stays with you after she has gone. Michelle designed clothes that take up space without asking permission and can hold every version of her, connected to where she comes from and completely free to change.
